Episode 11: Returning to the UK with Tom Pewtress and Jeff Pollock
Taking a look at taking a look at what it means to be relocating or repatriating.
It’s Christmas time and if you are like me, I’m heading home this year to see family for Christmas. I won’t be stopping for long in the UK this year but in today’s episode of the Expat Investor podcast I’m going to be taking a look at what it means to be relocating or repatriating.
As always, I’m Tom Pewtress – Head Of Global Partners here at Skybound, and today I am joined by our UK repatriation specialist Jeff Pollock. Jeff is based in the UK, but he himself is someone that has spent time as an Expat here in the UAE before he decided to head back to the UK, so I think it’s fair to say he has some first-hand experience when it comes to giving great advice about repatriation.
Now whilst Jeff specialises in working specifically with those that are relocating to the UK, a lot of what we are going to talk about today is also applicable if you are moving to any other country.
Discussed in this episode:
When you decided to leave the UAE what was the process of planning that you went through?
Why should someone consider receiving financial advice prior to relocating or repatriating?
It’s no secret that there are financial planners all over the world, if someone is moving to another country, what’s the benefit of speaking with a company who specialises in cross border planning rather than just a local planner?
Currency transfers - often a bank is not the best way to do it and clients should potentially consider an FX broker.
What is a QROPS?
If someone is holding a QROPS and is thinking about returning to the UK is this possible?
What about those out there who have received financial advice and are using Insurer based solutions to grow and protect their wealth? What key things do they need to consider?
Why is so important that someone enlist the help of UK registered Adviser?
If someone didn’t receive financial advice when relocating, what would be your 3 top things to remember to do?
It really is clear and if nothing else just as a reminder that if you are looking to relocate then it’s probably worth having a chat with a financial expert that has the cross-border knowledge and expertise. Making sure you have exited one country and entered the next in the correct financial way is certainly a crucial part of your long-term financial success.
